Event Details

On Saturday, 17 May 2008, the Africa Club at London Business School will host its 7th annual Africa Day Conference. Africa Day is a leading African conference in Europe, providing a compelling platform for intellectual exchange and debate around some of the continent’s most critical issues. The conference supports the School's vision to be the pre-eminent global business school, by bringing together some of the best minds and practitioners in African business to help inspire a socio-economic renaissance in Africa.

This year's conference, "Empowering Africa: Investing in Education, Securing Our Future" will focus on the transformation of the African continent by exploring a key driver for economic growth and social development:  Education. 

Africa Day 2008 aims to:

  • Bring together business and government leaders to discuss major developments, challenges, and success stories in the area of education on the continent
  • Promote the value of education as a tool for long-term socio-economic development
  • Explore good practices developed by business and government leaders
  • Inspire participants to spear-head educational initiatives across the continent

Keynote speakers include: 

  • Dr. Lalla Ben Barka (Deputy Executive Secretary, United Nations Economic Commission for Africa)
  • William Asiko (Director of Public Affairs and Communications, Coca-Cola Africa)
  • Fola Adeola (Founder/Chairman of the Board, FATE Foundation) 

Dinner Speaker:

  • Patrick Awuah (Founder and President, Ashesi University) 

Panel speakers include:
